Attachment Focused EMDR: Healing Relational Trauma with Laurel Parnell, PhD

PTSD and Creativity: Visiting the Muses with Paula Thomson, PsyD
In this hour, Dr. Paula Thomson addresses how creativity can impact those with PTSD. With one of the only known labs that have gathered psychophysiological data on performing artists and athletes that includes the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI), Dr. Paula Thomson illustrates her research findings and how performers re-create the events through music, film, theatre, or dance.

Mindfulness-Oriented Interventions for Trauma: Integrating Contemplative Practices with James Hopper, PhD
In this two-hour session, Dr. James Hopper illustrates the various circuitries and cycles within the brain. In addition to this, Dr. James Hopper discusses some key brain and psychological processes involved with trauma and how practices of mindfulness help heal the brain of a traumatized person.

Theraplay: How Play and Nurturing Care can Help with Phyllis Booth, M.A.
In the hour long Theraplay session, Dr. Phyllis Booth explores the effective play techniques for family issues. Theraplay is the pre-verbal parent-infant emotional communication that shapes the maturation of the infant’s sensing and feeling brain. Peter A. Levine, PhD, holds doctorates in both medical biophysics and psychology. The developer of Somatic Experiencing®, a body-awareness approach to healing trauma, and founder of the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, which conducts trainings in this work throughout the world and in various indigenous cultures, with 26 faculty members and over five thousand students. Dr. Levine was a stress consultant for NASA on the development of the space shuttle project and was a member of the Institute of World Affairs Task Force of Psychologists for Social Responsibility in developing responses to large-scale disasters and ethnopolitical warfare. Levine’s international best seller, Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma, has been translated into 22 languages. His recent interests include the prevention of trauma in children, and he has co-written two books, with Maggie Kline, in the area: Trauma Through a Child’s Eyes and Trauma-Proofing Your Kids. His most recent book: Trauma and Memory: Brain and Body in a Search for the Living Past, was recently released to rave reviews. Levine’s original contribution to the field of body psychotherapy was honored in 2010 when he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy (USABP). Levine was also honored as the recipient of the 2020 Psychotherapy Networker Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Jim Hopper is an independent consultant and Teaching associate in psychology at Harvard Medical School, and consultant to the Outpatient Addictions Service of the Cambridge Health Alliance. For over 25 years, Dr. Hopper’s research and consulting work has focused on the psychological and biological effects of child abuse, sexual assault, and other traumatic experiences. As a clinician, Dr. Hopper works with traumatized adults. He was a therapist for the FDA-approved phase 3 trial of MDMA-Assisted Therapy for PTSD, and since 2020 has provided ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in private practice. Dr. Hopper consults and teaches nationally and internationally to clinicians as well as investigators, prosecutors, judges, and other professionals.
