Implementing Integrative Health Methods at the End of Life
Join Leslie Korn, PhD, MPH, LMHC, for an important presentation incorporating evidence-based integrative and nutritional interventions to enhance the quality of life during end-of-life care. Integrative health approaches provide personalized care plans that respect the patient’s preferences, beliefs, and values, making the end-of-life experience more meaningful and respectful of individual needs.
Death doula work sits at the intersection of clinical knowledge and human presence.
A death doula, also called an end-of-life doula, provides emotional, spiritual, and practical support to dying patients and their loved ones, filling the space that exists between medical treatment and the deeply personal experience of dying. Unlike hospice staff or medical providers, death doulas don't manage symptoms or administer care. Instead, they sit with families through the unknown, help them process what's ahead, and bring a steady, non-pathologizing presence to a moment that can otherwise feel isolating and frightening.
What does a death doula do, in practice?
The role spans a wide spectrum, from legacy work and life review to helping families understand the signs and stages of dying. For social workers, nurses, counselors, and other professionals already working in end-of-life care, live and online death doula training offers a way to formalize skills many already use instinctively and to understand how this work complements, rather than duplicates, the roles of hospice, grief counselors, and the funeral industry.
As the death positive movement continues to grow, more healthcare and mental health professionals are seeking death doula training and death doula courses to expand their scope of practice and better serve patients and families through one of life's most universal transitions.
Every dying patient deserves someone who can hold space for what's ahead, and every family deserves support that goes beyond medical care. Start learning what it means to serve as a death doula, and bring that presence into your practice today.
