Description

  • The latest research on trauma, attachment disruption, executive functioning, and stress
  • Evidence-based somatic, cognitive, and relational interventions
  • Best practices for suicide & self-harm risk management
  • Interventions for screen dependency, mood, behavior, and attention

The youth mental health crisis isn’t slowing down – it’s accelerating …

New presentations. Rising rates of suicide and self-harm. Blurred lines between trauma, ADHD and oppositional behavior.

You need up-to-date treatment skills and tools that work for the kids and adolescents in your office – not the ones from your grad school textbooks.

That’s why we teamed up with Dr. Michelle Magida to create this essential certification training.

A seasoned therapist, former special education teacher, and nationally recognized trainer Dr. Magida has taught countless clinicians how to up their game in their work with kids and adolescents.

In just 2 days she’ll show you how to bring your work to a new level.

You’ll start by learning to decode the developmental science behind the kids you’re treating every day … including the latest research on early attachment disruptions, stress physiology, and how anxiety and executive dysfunction intersect across development.

Then Dr. Magida will give you a complete toolbox of practical interventions that you can use whether you’re working in an outpatient, school-based, telehealth or multidisciplinary setting.

You will walk away ready to:

  • Translate neuroscience into practical, developmentally appropriate interventions
  • Differentiate trauma, anxiety, executive dysfunction, and behavioral dysregulation
  • Confidently intervene when suicide risk and self-harm behavior emerges
  • Implement targeted interventions for digital overuse
  • Collaborate effectively with families and systems of care
  • Protect your own professional sustainability in high-acuity clinical work

This training will transform how you work with children and adolescents so you can guide them toward regulation and resilience.

Objectives

  1. Analyze the impact of trauma, chronic stress, and attachment disruption on prefrontal cortex development, executive functioning, and impulse control in children and adolescents.
  2. Differentiate between behavioral dysregulation related to trauma, anxiety disorders, ADHD, sensory processing differences, and oppositional presentations using neurodevelopmentally informed assessment frameworks.
  3. Formulate a developmentally appropriate, regulation-focused treatment plan grounded in autonomic nervous system functioning and stress physiology research.
  4. Choose three evidence-based somatic and relational regulation interventions designed to reduce reactivity and increase emotional flexibility in youth.
  5. Apply attachment-informed strategies to repair relational ruptures and strengthen caregiver–child attunement in clinical and school-based settings.
  6. Use validated tools (e.g., C-SSRS, SAFE-T framework) to conduct a comprehensive suicide risk assessment consistent with current national best-practice standards.
  7. Distinguish non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) from suicidal behavior and determine appropriate levels of care using evidence-informed criteria.
  8. Develop collaborative, youth-centered safety plans and document risk assessment procedures in alignment with ethical, legal, and clinical standards.
  9. Evaluate the neurobiological and psychosocial impact of excessive screen use, gaming disorder, and social media exposure on mood, sleep, and executive functioning in adolescents.
  10. Select three intervention strategies to address problematic digital media use across home, school, and outpatient settings.
  11. Integrate neurodevelopmental principles into multidisciplinary collaboration models and adapt interventions for outpatient, school-based, inpatient, and telehealth service delivery contexts.
  12. Choose four evidence-informed strategies to mitigate vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout when working with high-acuity youth populations.
