Afton Hassett, PsyD
Afton L. Hassett, PsyD, is associate professor and director of pain and opioid research in the department of anesthesiology at the University of Michigan. A leading expert in the field of resilience and pain, she has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles on the role of cognitive, affective, and behavioral factors in chronic pain. As a principal investigator conducting interdisciplinary research at the renowned Chronic Pain & Fatigue Research Center at UM, her NIH -funded work involves developing resilience-enhancing activities for individuals with chronic pain, testing novel interventions for chronic pain, and precision medicine studies that focus on a whole person approach to pain treatment. A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Hassett is the author of Chronic Pain Reset: 30 Days of Activities, Practices and Skills to Help You Thrive, an innovative pain self-management book for patients and their clinicians.
