2-Day Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, Polyvagal Theory & Developmental Neuroscience in the Treatment of Trauma

Your Chance for a Premier 2-Day IFS Therapy & Polyvagal Theory Training in San Diego or at Home via Live Webcast!

Your trauma clients aren’t stuck. Their nervous systems are.

And until you know how to work with both the parts and nervous system at the same time, the most wounded parts of your clients will stay out of reach.

You’ve felt it in session. A client who shuts down the moment you get close to something real. A protector that won’t budge. A dissociative response that pulls them away just as the work is getting somewhere. You’re trained and well-skilled, plus you care deeply about your clients. Yet, progress isn't happening.

The missing piece is understanding how the autonomic nervous system and developmental wounding shapes every moment of parts work, including what it allows, what it blocks, and what it takes to create the conditions where genuine transformation can finally occur.

In this immersive 2-day intensive with internationally renowned IFS therapy and Polyvagal Theory expert Alexia Rothman, PhD, you will learn how to:

  • Apply the full IFS therapy protocol from the 6 F's through unblending, witnessing, retrieval, and unburdening, so every phase of healing is grounded and safe
  • Read your client's nervous system in real time so you know exactly when to move forward and when to slow down
  • Finally reach the clients who have felt unreachable due to hyperarousal, high-protector vigilance, and dissociation
  • Understand how early developmental experiences shape the implicit relational templates driving your client's parts
  • Connect with preverbal and nonverbal parts through sensation, imagery, and the kind of attunement that goes beyond words
  • Develop your own grounded, Self-led presence so you can stay steady and co-regulate with clients in the most intense moments

Each day is built around live demonstrations, experiential practice, guided meditations, video examples, Q&A, and group sharing. Instead of just learning, you will do it and feel it.

Register now and reserve your place.

“Lexi Rothman not only knows IFS deeply, she embodies it. She gets my highest recommendation as a therapist or presenter!”

Objectives

  1. Describe the core principles of IFS therapy as a non-pathologizing framework for understanding the impact of trauma and attachment wounding and facilitating inner-system healing.
  2. Explain how developmental neuroscience shapes implicit relational templates and the development of parts within the IFS model.
  3. Explain the integration of IFS therapy and Polyvagal Theory and how an understanding of the functioning of the autonomic nervous system can support the safety and effectiveness of IFS therapy.
  4. Differentiate autonomic states associated with embodied safety versus survival and protection responses using a Polyvagal-informed lens.
  5. Apply an understanding of autonomic nervous system responses to the pacing of parts work.
  6. Demonstrate therapist unblending practices that support Self-led presence, therapist-client co-regulation, and the management of countertransference.
  7. Demonstrate use of the fundamental IFS therapy protocol (6 F's) to facilitate unblending, anchor clients in embodied safety, and increase access to Self energy.
  8. Utilize experiential interventions including guided imagery, somatic tracking, compassionate witnessing, and Self-to-part dialogue.
  9. Apply Polyvagal-informed interventions to support regulation and titrated access to wounded and vulnerable parts.
  10. Adapt IFS therapy interventions for dissociative processes and systems organized around high protector vigilance.
  11. Differentiate phases of the IFS therapy healing process, including witnessing, redo, retrieval, and unburdening.
  12. Describe the healing process with verbal as well as preverbal or nonverbal parts.
  13. Evaluate clinical considerations, risks, and limitations of applying IFS therapy.
