Perhaps it's intuition, that subtle nudge that suggests there's more beneath the surface, or a dedicated commitment to understanding the nuances of each patient's narrative. It's the willingness to ask one more question, to seek one more test, or to consult one more chapter of the medical texts that might illuminate the path forward. This deeper dive, motivated by the feeling that the pieces don't quite align, is what can lead us to uncover the 'zebras'—the rare, the unusual, and the extraordinary diagnoses that elude quick identification.

Michael E. Begg, DMSc, PA-C, AT-C, is a highly skilled healthcare professional with a diverse background in orthopedics, sports medicine, and athletic training. He currently serves as a physician assistant specializing in sports medicine and orthopedic trauma at Vail Summit Orthopedics and Neurosurgery in Edwards, CO.

Dr. Begg is also deeply involved in academia, serving as an adjunct faculty for the Doctor of Medical Science Program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and the Master of Science Physician Assistant Program at West Coast University.

With a strong commitment to advancing the field, Mike spent a majority of his career at The Steadman Clinic/Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, CO, where he led clinical aspects of multiple funded trials and focused on sports medicine, orthopedic trauma, regenerative medicine, and non-operative spine. He also played a key role in education, serving as a curriculum instructor and preceptor for AT Residency and MD Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs.

Dr. Begg also worked along fellowship trained orthopedic surgeons at Animas Orthopedic Associates in Durango, CO, where he provided comprehensive orthopedic care, including sports medicine, adult reconstruction, general orthopedics, and orthopedic trauma.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Begg is actively engaged in the orthopedic community. He hosts a podcast, H2Orthopedics.com, where he discusses common orthopedic conditions for patients and providers. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Physician Assistants, American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants, Physician Assistants in Orthopedic Surgery, and National Athletic Trainers Association.
