Dr. Frank is a clinical psychologist currently practicing at Enrich Relationship Center of Colorado in the Denver-metro area. She specializes in diagnosing and treating ADHD, particularly in women. She is co-author, along with Sari Solden, MS, of the book A Radical Guide for Women with ADHD: Embrace Neurodiversity, Live Boldly, and Break Through Barriers. In addition to individual clinical work, Dr. Frank Provides Gottman Method Couples’ Therapy to couples impacted by ADHD. With a passion for advocacy, outreach, and education, Dr. Frank regularly contributes to national ADHD conferences and support programs. Dr. Frank is former vice president of ADDA – an international nonprofit organization supporting adults with ADHD. She is a member of APSARD – The American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders. She graduated from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and Marquette University.

Objectives

  1. Name and describe 3 evidence-based practices to target ADHD in therapy with adults as well as 2 common ethical considerations in ADHD therapy. 
  2. Identify and explore with clients the ways in which life with ADHD has impacted not just their daily behavioral functioning, but also their view of self, other, and the world through a lens of neurodiversity-affirming compassion and curiosity in order to deepen the therapeutic relationship and target individualized treatment goals. 
  3. Identify and as needed, address clients directly, at least 2 ways in which having ADHD might show up within or impact the therapeutic process and relationship.  
  4. Discuss and reflect upon how the theory of hermeneutics applies to ADHD-informed and affirming therapy, particularly with regards to developing a shared understanding of the clients’ lived experience, concerns, and needs in order to build and maintain rapport, trust, and use the therapeutic relationship as a corrective experience to support client progress.
