Description
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a common, heterogenous lung condition characterized by chronic respiratory symptoms. Treatment often involves the use of one or more bronchodilators and inhaler devices. This comprehensive program will discuss diagnostic parameters, the initial treatment approach, and follow-up recommendations for ongoing management. An in-depth update of available medication classes and inhaler device types will also be provided to assist prescribers in confidently creating optimal evidence-based and patient-centered regimens.

Kimmy Nguyen, PharmD, BCACP, BC-ADM, TTS is a clinical content specialist with Micromedex at Merative, where she develops and maintains evidence-based clinical decision support and drug information content used by healthcare professionals worldwide. She maintains board certification in ambulatory care pharmacy and advanced diabetes management and is recognized for her expertise in primary care pharmacotherapy.
Dr. Nguyen earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. She completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, followed by a PGY2 residency in ambulatory care pharmacy at the VA Hudson Valley Health Care System in Wappingers Falls, NY. Prior to joining Merative, Dr. Nguyen served as an associate professor of pharmacy practice at Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, where she taught across the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum and maintained an ambulatory care practice focused on the management of chronic conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, asthma, and COPD. Her work emphasized evidence-based prescribing, clinical decision-making, patient education, and improving medication access for underserved populations.
In her current role with Micromedex, Dr. Nguyen contributes to the development, review, and enhancement of clinical content and drug information resources. Her work focuses on translating emerging evidence, clinical guidelines, and regulatory updates into practical, actionable information that supports medication-related decision-making at the point of care.
Dr. Nguyen has authored book chapters and peer-reviewed publications on pharmacotherapy and patient communication. She serves as the blog coordinator for the Ambulatory Care Practice and Research Network (PRN) through the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). Her contributions to the profession have been recognized with multiple honors, including the 2025 Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Preceptor of the Year Award, the 2024 ACCP Ambulatory Care PRN Member of the Year Award, the 2021 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award, and several teaching distinctions at Wilkes University.
