We all have an inner voice that can be one of our greatest sources of support, encouragement and compassion. But that inner voice can also be a critic, reducing our resilience and making it harder to find and feel our joy. Thank You Mind: Understanding My Big Feelings on Tricky Days was written to help support children as they develop that inner voice, particularly in relationship to the many big feelings they are learning to navigate as they grow.

My hope is that in reading this book with the children in your care, you will use it as an opportunity to talk about their emotions and experiences. By exploring how our minds can support us on tricky days (through self-talk, acceptance, reframing, noticing different perspectives, and savoring the good stuff) we can practice these skills and build a loving relationship with our own minds, learning what it means to truly befriend ourselves.
