Course Description:
It's hard to argue against an active lifestyle. Occasionally, however, this way of life can lead to injury. When athletes are taken from their activity, it is a physical and mental challenge to get them back into action. It's our responsibility to take on this challenge, apply our expertise and get the injured athlete back on the field, the court, or trail safely and quickly. This seminar will explore the most common athletic injuries, addressing each step on the road to returning to the playing field. Combining his understanding with his experience teaching patients of all ages on a daily basis and students at the collegiate level, Mike Begg will share his methods for explaining the often overwhelming situation in terms that make sense and take the fear out of the injury event.

Mike has over 20 years of experience as an athletic trainer and physician assistant in sports injury care, from professional to youth league athletes, sideline and clinical rehabilitation, and surgical and non-operative treatment of athletic injuries. Combining his experiences in "on the field" injury evaluation, clinical examination and diagnostics, orthopedic surgical assisting, and directing and developing rehabilitation protocols, Mike will help you develop a practical approach to the injured athlete in your care. Mike's dedication to making: the "complex"... simple, the "impossible"... attainable, the "overwhelming"... understandable, and the "confused"... educated, will be the foundation of each topic presented. His approach will not only be engaging and insightful, but will give you valuable tools for communicating with the injured athletes you encounter.

MIKE BEGG, PA-C

MIKE BEGG, PA-C Mike Begg has gained practical experience in the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic and sports-related injuries over the past 25 years of his practice. Working in an orthopedic practice that provides cutting-edge treatment options, Mike has the knowledge base and experience to help take your understanding of this patient population to the next level.

While obtaining his bachelor's degree and master's degree in athletic training/sports medicine, Mike was able to gain practical experience working with injured athletes in the NAIA, NCAA and Professional Athletic teams. Mike followed up these experiences by teaming with a physical therapist in an outpatient physical therapy clinic treating multiple non-operative and post-operative patients. These experiences were fulfilling and propelled his desire to know more about "the rest of the story". Mike went on to complete Physician Assistant education and presently works with a physician group in an Orthopedic/Sports Medicine practice in Vail, Colorado.

The experiences he has gained on the playing field, in the operating room, through outpatient roles and working side by side with some of the most respected orthopedic surgeons in the world, have contributed to his thorough understanding of what it means to treat the orthopedic patient. Additionally, he has presented educational seminars to over 1000 medical professionals throughout the nation. Past attendees have found Mike's teaching approach to be entertaining, engaging, and very applicable to practice.
