Here's What You'll Learn
In just 12 hours of training, this program will have you ready to teach your clients the DBT skills they need to thrive. Each unit is packed with easy-to-follow instructions PLUS expert-level clinical insights — ensuring you'll truly "get it" and be able to apply it with your clients right away.

DBT Skills From Start to Finish

Dr. Tara Arnold

Led by Dr. Tara Arnold, Unit 1 is your complete DBT skills foundation training. You'll learn how DBT is structured, how acceptance and change work together, and exactly how to teach all four core skills modules — Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. You'll master the "heavy hitter" DBT skills clinicians use every day: STOP, radical acceptance, opposite action, DEAR MAN, GIVE, FAST, and more. Then Dr. Arnold will show you how to adapt these skills for trauma, anxiety, depression, adolescents, and clients managing self-harm, substance use, or suicidality.

Here's what you'll learn in this unit:

DBT Foundations, Fundamentals and Principles
  • The structure of DBT
  • Acceptance, change, and balancing dialectical thinking
  • The DBT therapist's role
DBT Mindfulness Skills
  • Observing, describing, and participating in the moment
  • Radical acceptance: understanding and practicing
  • The “What” and “How” Skills: observe, describe, and participate mindfully
  • Integrate mindfulness into routine and therapy sessions
Distress Tolerance Skills
  • Managing crisis without worsening the situation
  • The STOP Skill: Stop, take a step back, observe, proceed
  • Distraction techniques to alleviate emotional intensity
  • Self-soothe with the five senses: Practical exercises
Emotion Regulation Skills
  • How DBT helps people gain control over overwhelming emotions
  • Identify and label emotions: The importance of emotional awareness
  • Opposite action: Choose behaviors that counteract negative emotions
Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills

  • GIVE: Maintain relationships with respect and care
  • FAST: Maintain self-respect in relationships

10+ DBT Tools to Help Clients Strengthen Relationships, Set Boundaries, and Build Self-Respect

Corey Pitts, LCMHC, C-DBT

Join certified DBT clinician Corey Pitts in Unit 2 as he preps you to tackle the sessions that get stuck on emotional fallout — the same fights, the same bad interactions, the same painful patterns. He'll dive deep into exactly how to teach DBT interpersonal skills in-session, so your clients can learn to speak up, set boundaries that protect their peace, say no without guilt, handle hard conversations, and repair relationships without blame.

This unit will show you how to teach clients to:

  • Speak up for themselves without making things worse
  • Set boundaries that protect their peace (and their relationships)
  • Say "no" without feeling guilty or losing connection
  • Handle hard conversations without shutting down or blowing up
  • Fix relationship issues without finger-pointing or running away

10+ DBT Tools to Help Clients Reduce Impulsivity, Accept Difficult Emotions, and Respond Instead of React

Corey Pitts, LCMHC, C-DBT

In Unit 3, Corey zeroes in on the root of so many client struggles: emotional dysregulation. When clients can't manage their emotions, they react impulsively, shut down, or blow up — and they can't use anything else you're teaching them. In this 3-hour training, you'll learn the top DBT emotion regulation skills to help clients face tough emotions without losing control, reduce impulsive reactions, stay aware of what they're feeling, and build more positive emotions now and going forward. No prior DBT experience required — these tools fit right into the therapy you're already doing, and you can use them immediately.

This unit will show you how to teach clients to:

  • Accept distress and face tough emotions without losing control
  • Control their reactions to avoid impulsive behaviors and reduce conflict
  • Stay aware of their emotions and respond in healthy ways
  • Build positive emotions both now and in the future
