Update your knowledge on the evaluation of, prevention, and treatment of osteoporosis. This video will focus on risks for fragility fractures in older adults, assessment tools to diagnose osteoporosis, safety measures to prevent fractures, nutritional considerations for bone health, appropriate exercise for bone health, and current treatment regimens for patients with osteopenia or osteoporosis.

Amy B. Harris, MSN, APN, OCNS-C

Amy B. Harris, MSN, APN, OCNS-C spent 30 years working in a variety of orthopedic settings to include rheumatology, level one trauma hospital in-patient units, ambulatory care settings, a rehabilitation hospital, operating rooms, and in out-patient orthopedics. She has focused her career as a rheumatology nurse coordinator for the past 9 years, with active membership in the Rheumatology Nurses Society.

Her expertise has additionally been recognized through certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Nurse Specialist. Amy’s commitment to the National Association of Orthopedic Nurses (NAON) is evident through her participation as a national congress speaker, serving on the education committee, and through appointment as co-chair of NAON’s first full day APN conference.

As a member of the test committee for the Orthopedic Nursing Certification Board (ONCB), she has been an item-writer for the ONCB’s certification exams. With her honed expertise, Amy has also presented orthopedic certification exam review courses around the country.

Amy has earned distinction as a sought-after presenter on a variety of topics related to the care of patients with rheumatologic and orthopedic conditions. Nationally, she has been invited to share her insights at conferences co-sponsored by NAON and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
