Palliative wound care utilizes mutual goal setting to maximize quality of life in patients where wound healing may not be the primary goal. Knowledge of pain management, decreased dressing change frequency, and infection prevention methods can facilitate successful outcomes in this specialized cohort of wound patients. Laura Swoboda, DNP, APNP, FNP-BC, FNP-C, CWSP, is a translational scientist, family nurse practitioner, and certified wound specialist in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Swoboda is on the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP)’s Prophylactic Dressing Standards Initiative Task Force, a member of the editorial board for WOUNDS journal, and on the board of directors for th Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC).
