Objectives
  1. Recognize the intelligent unconscious brain pathways and how hypnosis accesses them for therapy.
  2. Describe direct and indirect suggestion, practice each form, and learn a 4-step method to apply them therapeutically.
  3. Demonstrate inducing and coming out of self-hypnotic trance in a clinical setting.

  8. Recognize how the reward pathway is compromised by addiction and hypnotic methods of suggestion and trance to inform the clinician’s choice of treatment interventions .
  9. List brain patterns along with conscious and unconscious factors in eating disorders and learn suggestion and trance techniques to develop healthy eating habits in clients.
  10. Explain sleep cycles and sleep problems and enlist hypnotic protocols to foster healthy sleep patterns in clients.
  11. Practice and demonstrate sensitivity to a clients' experiencing through pre-trance discussion and utilize it to enhance treatment outcomes.
  12. Demonstrate the ability to induce trance, use the different forms of suggestion to deepen it, produce a trance phenomenon alteration, and successfully end the trance in a clinical setting.

CHARLES A. SIMPKINS, PHD Charles A. Simpkins, Ph.D., is a psychologist specializing in neuroscience, psychotherapy, meditation and hypnosis. With his wife, Annellen, Charles has co-authored 28 books, many of them bestsellers. Their most recent books on neuroscience are Yoga and Mindfulness Therapy Workbook for Clinicians and Clients (PESI, 2014), Neuroscience for Clinicians (Springer, 2012), The Dao of Neuroscience (Norton 2010) and Neuro-Hypnosis (Norton 2010). They have also written about meditation for healthy mind-brain change: The Tao of Bipolar, (New Harbinger 2013), Zen Meditation in Psychotherapy (Wiley, 2012), Meditation and Yoga in Psychotherapy (Wiley, 2011), and Meditation for Therapists and Their Clients (Norton 2001). Their books have over 20 foreign editions and have won numerous awards.

Dr. Simpkins has practiced psychotherapy for more than three decades, and taught meditative and hypnotic methods to facilitate mind-brain change to people of all ages.
