BETSY SHANDALOV, OTR /L, C-IAYT, CYKT, has been an Occupational Therapist since 1992. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Boston University. She has worked in adult care at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, and she has also worked as a clinician, educator and supervisor in rehabilitation and community re-entry at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Shandalov has presented nationally on multiple topics at the collegiate level to both undergraduate and graduate students in occupation therapy.

In 2008 Betsy earned her 200-hour adult yoga teacher training with a focus on Iyengar yoga. In 2009 she then became certified as a yoga kids’ teacher and trainer by Yoga Kids International with over 200 hours of training. In 2011 she trained for 130 hours as a yoga therapist through Niroga Institute in Oakland, CA. She then became a member of their yoga therapy staff at Niroga. Betsy became a Certified yoga therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists with over 1000 hours of yoga training and teaching.

Betsy has advanced training through The Center for Mind-Body Medicine in Washington, D.C. and she is also a Level I Reiki practitioner. She treats patients with trauma but also lectures to health care and education staff on how to use integrative medicine to heal trauma for staff and or clients.

Betsy teaches a 6 hour nationwide continuing education course to healthcare professionals on Therapeutic Yoga since 2010. She has seen the changes and amazing growth in Integrative Medicine in this country and its impact on medicine.

She now treats adults and children in a variety of healthcare and educational settings and treats people privately using yoga as her main therapeutic modality. Her extensive knowledge of disease and disability in a variety of settings combines with her complementary yoga treatment to provide a new level of understanding of how the brain and the immune system work together for natural and therapeutic healing.

She lectures at the college level and to communities on Mindfulness, Meditation and is currently working on a chapter on Meditation and Mindfulness in an Integrative Medicine book with Integrative Medicine Professionals from around the world.

She continues to lecture around the country to encourage and educate other healthcare professionals to learn more about Integrative Medicine and it’s benefits. Her hope is that if we can teach clients to empower themselves with movement and breath that they can change their lifestyle to prevent injury, heal an existing injury and help with pain management and trauma throughout the lifespan.
