Course Description:

Yoga and Mindfulness-based techniques are highly effective and cost effective modalities to address trauma and anxiety in children and adolescents. Attend this seminar and learn techniques to:
  • Diminish impulsivity
  • Improve academic performance
  • Help form and maintain relationships
  • Reduce depression
  • Reduce inattention
  • Decrease self-injurious behaviors
  • Improve low self-esteem

Yoga strengthens the connection between the parts of the brain that are involved with emotions, instincts, and thinking, thus helping with emotional regulation and promoting concentration and brain balance. Emotionally children and adolescents feel empowered and in control which increases their self-esteem and capacity to self-regulate, ultimately reducing behavioral outbursts and discipline problems.

In this engaging seminar, you will learn how to integrate yoga and mindfulness practices in your already established relationships with children and adolescents. Victoria will share her passion of engaging and empowering children and adolescents to regain control of their thoughts, feelings and bodies. You will walk away with concrete methods and techniques to help children and adolescents develop emotional literacy, regulate and soothe their minds and bodies, enhance communication and develop healthy relationships. You will emerge with the ability to easily and immediately integrate these cutting-edge evidence-based strategies, improving outcomes and leaving your patients and students feeling empowered and in control.
Objectives:
  1. Develop an understanding of how children and adolescents experience trauma from a developmental, psychological and physical perspective.
  2. Identify the common symptomology or skill deficits faced by children and adolescent who have experienced trauma and anxiety.
  3. Describe the benefits of using yoga and mindfulness in treatment with traumatized and anxious children and adolescents.
  4. List specific tools and techniques that can be used to address symptomology and skill deficits.
  5. Develop a tool box of possible interventions.
  6. Identify ways to incorporate yoga and mindfulness in your already established clinical practice/classroom.

VICTORIA GRINMAN

Victoria Grinman, LICSW, is a psychotherapist, educator and activist with many years of experience supporting individuals of all ages and differences in life perspectives, and their families. She is the owner of Growing Kind Minds, a private practice and community resource, and a faculty member of Boston College School of Social Work. Victoria holds a BA in Social Work and Psychology from Adelphi University and a MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work. She is a Certified Family Trauma Professional, a trained yoga and mindfulness instructor to children and adolescents through Little Flower Yoga, and a certified aromatherapist through New York Institute of Aromatherapy. Victoria was a proud faculty member of Columbia School of Social Work and Adelphi University, with research focus on parenting, Autism and posttraumatic growth

Victoria has extensive experience providing individual, group and family therapeutic services to kids and teens, utilizing an integrative approach that is informed by theory, and grounded in a holistic and strengths-based perspective. She has been invited to be a speaker at universities, organizations and community groups on topics that span the areas of yoga and mindfulness, play therapy, neuropsychology education, emotional literacy, education, clinical practice, disabilities, trauma and autism; and provides consultation in program development, and social-emotional curriculum building and implementation. Victoria participates annually in national and international conferences, speaking on trauma and post-traumatic growth.

Victoria enthusiastically looks for new ways to facilitate and promote resiliency, empathy and wellness. She is excited to be part of the process of sharing tools and meeting people in interdisciplinary realms with like goals.
