Course Description:

If you attend only one seminar this year, it has to be this! Learn from the nation’s foremost authority on Section 504, Perry Zirkel. Perry will not only provide the practical basics for those new to 504 responsibilities, but also the latest nuances for those with extensive 504 experience. In one short day, you will gain new insight into regulations, laws and issues that significantly affect your K-12 district compliance. You will take away helpful visual organizers, practical tips, effective insights and useful forms to be used at your school. Perry will provide the most recent case law and there will be ample opportunity throughout the day for Q-and-A interaction. Don’t miss this highly informational and entertaining day with ”The King of 504” Perry Zirkel.

  1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of Section 504 in relation to K-12 students.
  2. Apply the criteria for a defensible grievance procedure.
  3. Identify the distinction between “double covered” and “504 only” students.
  4. Conduct an eligibility evaluation in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
  5. Meet the FAPE requirements for eligible 504-only students.
  6. Identify the distinctive features of two alternatives for formal dispute resolution for 504-only students – the OCR complaint process and the impartial hearing process.
