Women, Bodies and Food

Upwards of 45% of women are on diets and over 25% of those turn into clinical eating disorders. Approximately 70% of women report body image dissatisfaction.

Clinicians are often lost in a cycle of helplessness to help their clients move toward body acceptance and peace through top down approaches. However, for our clients to feel empowered a bottom-up, internal understanding and skill development must take place before an accepting and compassionate relationship with one’s body can develop. Through applying an embodied understanding or what separated them from their body and food, along with nervous system regulation skills, we can learn to help our client move from dysregulation with food and disconnection and dissatisfaction with their bodies, to a regulated relationship with food and an embodied connection with their bodies and self.
