Como educadores, nos enfrentamos al reto que significa conocer emocional y socialmente a nuestros estudiantes. Esto puede ser bastante retador con estudiantes regulares, pero resulta más complejo cuando son estudiantes que han tenido experiencias de trauma o presentan algún compromiso a nivel de salud mental. Los estudiantes que han tenido experiencias traumáticas, con frecuencia presentan dificultades como, el mostrar y participar en comportamientos problemáticos tales como baja tolerancia a la frustración, ataques de ira y dificultades en las relaciones sociales. Estos comportamientos suelen interponerse o ser obstáculos en el proceso de aprendizaje y enseñanza.

Cuando los estudiantes ha tenido experiencias de trauma, el/ella pasan gran parte del día en un modo de lucha/huida/bloqueo que limita su capacidad de aprendizaje. La externalización de la agresividad y las conductas irritables que estos estudiantes presentan, pueden interrumpir la dinámica del aula, y esto requerirá de tu tiempo y atención. A pesar de la cantidad de tiempo que podamos invertir en gráficos de comportamiento o incentivos para el buen comportamiento; simplemente los enfoques tradicionales de conducta para el manejo del aula y un enfoque punitivo
de la disciplina no son eficaces.

Rosa María Bramble, LCSW-R, es una clínica bilingüe de salud mental con más de 20 años de experiencia. Actualmente mantiene su práctica privada, donde se especializa en trauma, recuperación y terapia afirmativa. La Lic. Bramble ofrece consulta y entrenamiento para organizaciones comunitarias sobre la entrega de servicios informados sobre traumas y para poblaciones inmigrantes. Se especializa en el impacto de eventos traumáticos ndividuales y comunitarios y realiza estudios en intervenciones enfocadas en trauma. Además, Lic. Bramble es profesora adjunto en la Escuela de Trabajo Social de la niversidad de Colombia, donde desarrolló un currículo especializado en atención de trauma informado para las poblaciones de inmigrantes y refugiados. Lleva a cabo evaluaciones psicosociales forenses para casos de inmigración y asilo político y sirve como testigo experta en las áreas de trauma y TEPT.

Una instructora solicitada, Lic. Bramble ha presentado sobre la atención informada sobre trauma en varias conferencias, incluyendo la Conferencia La Familia de la Asociación Nacional de Trabajadores Sociales Puertorriqueños e Hispanos (NAPRHSW), la Sociedad Internacional de Estudios de Estrés Traumático, y la Conferencia Internacional sobre Salud Mental de la Mujer en Lima, Perú. También adaptó un programa de psicoeducación al trauma de 12 semanas para sobrevivientes de trauma de habla hispana.

La Lic. Bramble fue anteriormente presidenta de la Asociación Nacional de Trabajadores Sociales Hispano Puertorriqueños (división NYC), y ha trabajado con el consulado exicano, en el programa “Ventanilla de la Salud,” para brindar servicios a sobrevivientes de violencia de pareja y/o trata de personas, y niños sin acompañante. Lic. Bramble ha aparecido en NPR y HITN, abordando temas como la depresión, el alcoholismo, el trauma debido a la inmigración y el suicidio de adolescentes en la comunidad latina, además de haber escrito varios artículos sobre asilo político y mujeres inmigrantes y VIH.
