Course Description:

Art reveals how one perceives the world, one’s cognitive and emotional functioning level, and is used as a fun outlet for self-expression and self-discovery!

Attend this seminar and learn from well-known art therapist, author, and trained mindful self-compassion instructor and practitioner, Dr. Patricia Isis. You will experience simple, success oriented sociodramatic exercises, along with the utilization of breath, intention and attitude to cultivate mindfulness for challenging emotions. Also discover user friendly therapeutic movement, imagery, mindful doodling, mandalas and aluminum foil sculpture.

Through case examples, experiential activities and dialogue, you will identify a rich menu of mindfulness-based artmaking tools and techniques designed to enhance moment to moment awareness and emotional regulation for inside and outside your practice.

You will be amazed at the transformation with your clients, and no background in art therapy is required as you will be shown tools to use within your scope of practice.
Objectives:

  1. Define and experience mindfulness and mindful self-compassion through expressive arts modalities.
  2. Identify the difference between contemplative mindfulness and mindful awareness while incorporating clinical tools for both.
  3. Illustrate at least 3 positive side effects of mindful doodling.
  4. Explore therapeutic interventions integrating mindfulness, wellness, self-compassion and the expressive arts for multiple populations and settings.
  5. Discuss the differences between art therapy and therapeutic art making and working within your scope of practice.
  6. Recognize the importance of art therapy consultation when needed.
