ABOUT DEBRA BURDICK, LCSW, BCN
Debra Burdick, LCSW, BCN, also known as ‘The Brain Lady’, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is certified by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance in neurofeeback. She is a national speaker and author and has provided outpatient psychotherapy, neurofeedback and substance abuse counseling to clients for over 20 years.
Debra incorporates mindfulness skills in all areas of her practice. She initially became interested in mindfulness to deal with a chronic illness (now thankfully healed). She found it so helpful in her own life that she started teaching her clients the skills she was using. She went on to develop clinical material on various mindfulness skills and created a 4 step process for working with clients using mindfulness that she perfected in her private practice and in an intensive outpatient program. Debra applies mindfulness strategies to ADHD, depression, anxiety, stress, sleep, cognitive function, memory, relationships, and traumatic brain injury and added neurofeedback to her psychotherapy practice in 1999. Her clients have shown her that mindfulness skills improve the rate and quality of treatment outcomes.
Besides her private practice Debra also worked at the Child Guidance Clinic, Family Services, the Child and Family Agency, and Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. In April 2011 she taught an all day workshop in Chicago at a national Neurofeedback Clinical Interchange Conference.
Debra is currently writing a book containing a practical toolkit of mindfulness skills and strategies for using them to improve depression, anxiety, and overall wellbeing. She is also the author of A Holistic Approach to Successful Children with Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder – A Home Study System for Parents, a 14-step solution to help parents unlock their child’s potential.
