Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is quickly becoming the preferred method for working with borderline personality disordered clients, along with other difficult to treat clinical cases of instability. DBT has been empirically validated to reduce crisis, lower hospitalizations and improve daily functioning by empowering clients to “live a life worth living.”
Dr. Michelle Washington will guide you through an understanding and foundation of the DBT skills needed when working within the diverse populations of mental health. She will address the four skill development techniques—Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation and Interpersonal Regulation—and translate them into adaptable strategies applicable to a wide range of clinical settings.

ABOUT MICHELLE WASHINGTON, Ph.D.
Michelle Washington, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in the District of Columbia & Virginia, and the coordinator of the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Program & Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Point of Contact for the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware. Prior to her current position, Dr. Washington implemented the Behavior Management/Dialectical Behavior Therapy program at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, DC. Over the last 10 years, she has conducted hundreds of DBT workshops in various treatment settings.
Dr. Washington graduated with a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University. She is the mental health advisor on the President’s Advisory Board of the Uplift Community Foundation, Inc. in Washington, DC. Inaddition, she is a psychology training supervisor to masters and doctoral psychology students.
