It has been exactly 30 years since Jon Kabat-Zinn introduced the Western self-help reader to the idea of mindful eating with his “raisin meditation.” This seminar recording broadens the definition of mindful eating by going beyond the mindfulness of the flavor and of the process of eating. The presentation highlights five core skill-sets of mindful eating know-how: Hunger Recognition, Craving Control, Fullness Recognition, Process Focus, and Mindful Emotional Eating. This presentation is based on Pavel Somov’s curriculum of awareness-building and habit-modifying exercises for managing overeating described in his book Eating the Moment: 141 Mindful Practices to Overcome Overeating One Meal at a Time (New Harbinger, 2008).
